Mr. Charles E. Simmons died in May 2005 after living on Hilton Head Island for 99 years. Before the bridge was built, Mr. Simmons, Sr. provided transportation via ferry boat to the residents of Hilton Head Island. He was the lifeline to the mainland for many years.

For his contribution and dedication to the residents of Hilton Head island, we are requesting that the name of Spanish Wells Road which he lived on for most of his life is changed to Charles E. Simmons, Sr. Road.

We, Native Island Business and Community Affairs Association, Inc., BayGall, Grassland POA, Chaplin, Marshland and Gardner POA, Spanish Wells, Jarvis POA, and the Stoney, Squire Pope, POA support the name change and request your support by signing this petition.

Mr. Charles E. Simmons, Sr. Served the Hilton Head Island Community faithfully before the bridge was built by providing ferry transportation for native residents to the mainland.

Mr. Simmons, Sr. was considered a lifeline for the residents living here at the time. Because of his contributions to the residents of this community, we, the Native Island Business and Community Affairs Association,Inc., BayGall, Grassland POA, Chaplin, Marshland, Gardner POA, Spanish Wells, Jarvis POA and Stoney, Squire Pope POA, and friends, are petitioning to have the name of Spanish Wells Road changed to Charles E. Simmons, Sr. Road.
