On April 1, 2009, the retailers of Uptown Broadway started booting the cars of residents that were parked in the lot for more than 3 hours. Not only is this a hostile and unneighborly act, it alienates the very people these businesses want to attract.

The ordinance was voted on by the retail HOA board which consists of Jim Loftus, one of his employees, and a member of 1st Bank. Jim was not at the meeting, and the regular representative of 1st Bank sent a sub in her place.

That means this ordinance was only voted on by two people, only one of which was official, and with no representation from the residents.

There is no evidence to suggest that alternatives were considered that could have been a win-win for both residents and retailers, nor is there evidence that any data was compiled to study the problem objectively without just relying on anecdotal impressions. Therefore...

We, the residents, retailers, employees, and business associates of Uptown Broadway, request that the retail HOA immediately repeal the 3 hour parking boot ordinance that became effective on April 1, 2009 and work with the residents to find a solution that works for all parties.

A parking boot ordinance only inflames anger and ill will among the very people that patronize the businesses in the complex. We hope to work out an agreement that provides enough parking spaces for the retailers to successfully carry on their business without undue and unneeded punitive measures against the residents.
