Remember Those Who Died in the Workplace

This petition was published by Marcia Mayne on Apr 18, 2002

WHEREAS: Every year tens of thousands of American workers are killed by workplace injuries and occupational disease. AND WHEREAS: Tens of thousands more are permanently disabled. AND WHEREAS: Millions are injured or made ill. AND WHEREAS: This year has special significance as we mourn those killed in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, which claimed the lives of more than 3,000 people—most of whom were workers at their jobs when the attacks occurred or rescue workers who worked to save lives. AND WHEREAS: Concerned Americans are determined to prevent these tragedies by: Observing Workers Memorial Day on April 28, as a day to remember these victims, renewing our efforts to seek stronger safety and health protections, better standards and enforcement and fair and just compensation. WE, do hereby proclaim April 28 as Workers' Memorial Day in recognition of workers killed, injured and disabled on the job.
