Release Ahmed Adoke Now

Alh Ahmed Adoke a 72years old human rights activist, a war front reporter during the Nigerian civil war. A human right activist and social critics from Kogi Central Senatorial district in Kogi State was framed up and arrested on charges of been involved in the kidnapping of a Judge in Kogi State on the 7th day of June 2015 and was not arraigned or charged to any court of law till 10thJuly 2015. (1 month 3 days after his arrest). He was denied bail at the kogi State magistrate court, Lokojaand has since been remanded at the Kotonkarfi Medium Security Prison, Kogi State.

The arresting officers who made the arrest on orders from the IGP did not find anyincriminating evidence linking him to the said crime after searching his residence for more than three (3) hours. He was not allowed access to his family members or legal representation for more than 72 hours.

He was arrested based on a petition filed by an individual whose identity is not known. After investigation and delay intaking him to an appropriate court within 24hours as stipulated by the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria. Some other persons have being arrested by a Joint Taskforce of the Directorate of State Security (DSS) and the Nigerian Military with incriminating evidence linking them to the crime of kidnap of a Judge in Kogi State the same crime Alh Ahmed Adoke is being accused of.

His application for bail at the high court in kotonkarfi was scheduled for hearing on the 23rd of July 2015 but on that day the presiding judge did not come to court with the excuse that he was sent on a compulsory workshop to Abuja and he has since preceded on his annual vacation.

The continued detention of Alhaji Ahmed Adoke by the Kogi State Police Command and the Judiciary is an abuse of his fundamental human right and a case of victimization because he is being punished for a crime he did not commit.
