The voters, having decided not to support a referendum to expend Public Funds to build a new baseball Stadium for a major league Spring Training facility are currently facing a movement to ignore their input an proceed to spend millions to subsidize a new ball park on municipal property by a private group circulating a petition supporting the effort absent mention of the Public Funding anticipated.

A:Probably not. Under the current funding proposals, neither the city nor the county are required to go to voters. An increase in the hotel tax, which makes up more than half of the funding package, can be enacted with a simple majority vote by the Sarasota County Commission.

We, the undersigned residents and taxpayers of Sarasota County, Florida herewith petition our elected officials to reject calls for Public Funding of a new Baseball Stadium in Sarasota County regardless the source of such Public Revenues.
