Over the course of the next few weeks and months, the Greenwich Board of Education will choose among four conceptual options for the reorganization of Greenwich Public Schools.
All the current Board of Education options require some form of widespread redistricting or the involuntary reassignment of schoolchildren across the Town of Greenwich. To date, although the Board of Education has heard the concerns of Greenwich parents at recent meetings, it has not listened.
Therefore, please support this effort to ensure the Board of Education reaches a resolution that:
1. Improves academic achievement for all students;
2. Addresses overcrowded schools through choice-based solutions; and
3. Does not force redistricting or involuntary reassignment on any family.
Let’s preserve our current neighborhood-based elementary schools and ensure an exceptional educational for all Greenwich schoolchildren.
By signing below, I AGREE that I support:
- Offering families in overcrowded or racially imbalanced schools the choice to send their children to under-enrolled schools (with Town-provided transportation).
- Increasing capacity in severely overcrowded schools to allow all families to remain in their zoned schools.
- Enhancing academic achievement at under-performing schools through greater use of pre-k, ESL, STEM, after school, summer school and/or extended school-day programs.
- Sustaining the current neighborhood-based elementary school system and allowing all families to remain in their zoned schools if they wish.
By signing below, I agree that I do NOT support:
- Mandatory redistricting or involuntary school reassignment of any kind.
- Subdividing elementary schools into paired K-2nd grade and 3rd-5th grade programs (i.e., "sister schools"), thereby forcing children to complete elementary school education in separate (and often geographically dispersed) buildings.
