Screamin' Jay Hawkins was a legendary stage presence in the early era of rock and roll. The fact remains that Jay has yet to be recognized by the Hall of Fame committee for his overall contribution as being the "Father of Shock/Horror Rock" as His peers of the 50's generation have been honored, yet Jay has not even received a single nomination. It is time to rectify and acknowledge his effect on the world of music today.
His biggest hit that he wrote, performed and recorded has been acknowledged by the Hall of Fame as being one of the top 500 songs in rock and roll history, but his overall contribution has not.
It has been widely acknowledged by the music industry, his peers and fans alike, that without Screamin Jay Hawkins, hall of fame acts such as KISS, Black Sabbath, Iggy Pop and Alice Cooper would not have had as much of an impact without his influence.
We, the undersigned, call upon the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to induct Jalacy Hawkins AKA Screamin' Jay Hawkins, for his pioneering contribution that sparked a whole genre of rock and roll.
Although Jay did not have numerous hits he does own the title of the "Father of Shock/horror rock" that has been a major contributing factor for many musical groups globally.
Jay himself has since passed from this world. Induction would ensure that his sacrifices, contributions and memory stay alive for all those who followed. Jay's biggest criteria for induction are his significant contribution to the development, perpetuation and historical importance of rock and roll.
