In June 2011 Qld Urban Utilities (QUU), amid fears of liability for future suicide attempts, closed public access to one of Ipswich Qld's most loved tourist attractions - the top of the Denmark Hill Water Tower, where the tranquil picturesque panoramic views of the historic town and its surrounding countryside are "to die for".
While QUU have recently affirmed their commitment to reopen the facility after safety improvements, they have not provided a schedule to do so. It's feared by many that without public pressure, the company may give higher priority to servicing shareholder demands than this much loved community landmark.
We, the undersigned, call on the Qld Urban Utilities Board of Directors, in consultation with concerned Ipswich community representatives, to agree on and implement a schedule for reopening public access to the top of the Denmark Hill Water Tower.
