Government of Sri Lanka fails to deal with criminal elements as required by law.
In the other part of the world, where the sovereignty in the people is respected and the Rule of Law is duly observed, the Court system strictly treat every person equal before law and provides no unequal or special treatment for whatever the reason. Whereas in Sri Lanka what people witness is completely the opposite. Just few weeks ago the Supreme Court of Egypt sentenced the President to life for abusing office for improper purposes and his appeal against the conviction too was turned down sending a clear message to the those abuse office.
Whereas in Sri Lanka those who abuse office for embezzlement of public funds in billions of rupees and to commit various other criminal offences such drug peddling and murder are dealt and even the ones arrested are given right royal treatment.
The kind of preferential treatment given to these criminal elements are such that they need not enter court building when summoned before the Court or produced in Court. They are permitted to stay in an ambulance parked in the Court premises. The abuse and preferential treatment given to them is such that these anti-social elements are permitted spend entire period they are ordered spent in the remand custody in the Nation Hospital or in a private hospital.
Rajapakse led Criminal elements are encouraged by President Sirisena to regroup
President Rajapakse and most of his cronies who should have been behind bars by now have been permitted to regroup, with a seeming possible attempt to return to power.
It is truly sad that despite all the serious weaknesses and flaws with Rajapakse, President Sirisena allows Rajapakse to engage in politics under the cover of ‘Dhamma’ taking the gullible Sinhalese majority, absolutely clueless about the true character of this person, for a ride. He knows that inciting racism and religious conflict is the best weapon to win the hearts and minds of the majority Sinhalese.
