We the people of the United States of America have lost our representative democracy. Due to the 2010 Citizens United ruling by the Supreme Court, and the inability of our elected representatives to bring about campaign finance reform, America is now in practice and in deed a plutocracy.
Therefore, we the people must amend our constitution. We have in record numbers lost faith in our Congress and in our judicial system to apply basic decency and respect to all of its citizens, not just the wealthy.
When corporations are granted “personhood” and permitted under our sacred compact of “free speech” to spend unlimited sums to influence, if not control, the decisions of our elected federal officials, we must insist upon taking our nation back to its stated goal of representing all of its people. Free and fair, not bought and paid for elections is a right that must be protected under our constitution. Publicly financed elections will substantially aid in that protection.
We, the undersigned citizens of the United States of America, require that our constitution be amended to exclusively limit all financial funding for the purpose of running campaigns for federal office to those funds generated through the payment of federal income taxes.
Our proud intentions as an evolving and all inclusive republic can tolerate nothing less. All Americans are declared as equal in the framework of our constitution, and as such, our entire citizenry must be represented if we are to live in sincerity with our highest visions for this great nation.
