Prevent the construction of a campground at Horsetooth Reservoir

We petition the county commissioners of Larimer County, Senator Salazar, Senator Allard and Congresswoman Musgrave to prevent the construction of a campground on the north end of Horsetooth Reservoir, as proposed by the Larimer County Department of Parks and Open Lands.

The campground would pose a fire hazard to surrounding residential areas and prevent the safe evacuation of many homeowners whose sole escape route would be blocked. The safety of cyclists, runners and horse riders would be threatened by the large recreational vehicles that would travel to the campground on roads not designed for such vehicles. The native wildlife, wetlands, and air quality will be negatively impacted due to noise, trash, and sewage.

Over 700 acres of existing conservation easements would be negated by the unsightly and wholly inappropriate use of the proposed campground site and would deter the establishment of future conservation easements by private landowners.
