We come from Africa and we have seen poverty beyond compare. Africa is the richest continent with the poorest race and to some of us this is a big disgrace. To all conscious people this situation is not acceptable and calls for radical changes.
There is plenty of scientific evidence to prove that of the world's poorest, the majority of them are located in Africa. There is plenty of scientific evidence to prove that the majority of Africans live without electricity and have no access to clean running water.
There is plenty of evidence showing that there is an alarming mortality rate of children and the youth, poor sanitation system and rampant homelessness of children and families.
There is also loads of evidence to prove that the highest number of refugees are located in Africa.
We, the undersigned, call on the United Nations to help eliminate poverty in Africa would like the International Community to make poverty a criminal offence.
1. 75 percent of the world's poorest are located in Africa.
2. World wide 10 countries with the highest proportion of residents living in extreme poverty are all in Sub-Saharan Africa.
3. Approximately 1 in 3 people in Sub-Saharan Africa are undernourished.
4. In Sub-Saharan Africa alone 22 million people live without electricity.
5. 38 percent of the world's refugees are located in Africa.
6. 70 percent of the continent poor people live in rural areas.
7. In Africa nearly 28 million people are living with HIV and AIDS. Over the next ten years, 40 million African children will lose their parents as a result of AIDS.
8. We are appealing to the international community to help in campaigning against corruption in Africa and in government institutions.
