Re: Parole Hearing For Bruce Lorick
DOB: July,31,1957
DIN# 81-A-2502

A visitor to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C. can view the name of Police Officer Joseph Keegan, New York City Police Department Transit Divison, on Panel 45,E-8. His name is listed with thousands of other police officers who have given the "last full measure of devotion" to us all.

Officer Keegan took the ultimate sacrifice while on uniform patrol on June 19, 1980. At about 5:30 A.M., Officer Keegan was assigned to the 59Th St. and 8th Ave Station in Manhattan when he escorted a man who refused to pay his fare to the street. As they arrived at street level the perpetrator started to fight with the officer. In the struggle that pursued, he tore the officer's weapon from his holster and fired, striking Officer Keegan in the head. He died as a result of the altercation.

The release of Bruce Lorick on parole would be a grave injustice to his family as well as society.

The murder of any police officer is a crime that cries out for justice. In the time of great danger in our society, we must reinforce the minds of criminals and terrorists that assaults on our police and citizens will be merited not only Swift Justice but with the punishment that fit's the crime. Absent of the death penalty, LIFE IN PRISON IS A FITTING SENTENCE.

WE, the undersigned call on the members of the Board to deny parole for Bruce Lorick.
