Let me introduce myself. My name is Hailey, I am a 21 year old mom of two young boys. I’m enrolled in a community college, Monterey Peninsula College, taking 21 units. I have been attending this school since fall 2006. This is my last semester until I graduate with my associates in Business Entrepreneurship, at which time I will transfer to a CSU to further my education.

I am currently in a battle with Monterey Peninsula College for the third time over receiving my Federal Pell grants. Although I meet all the requirements to receive this aid, they have made me ineligible because I have previously experienced medical issues landing me on bed rest and hospitalized multiple times and had to withdraw from my courses. I have appealed the decision and was denied because the MPC board did not consider my medical issues as a “SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCE”. I then made an appointment with one of the financial aid board members, who belittled me and refused to further assist me.

This is my last semester until I graduate and I am determined to make this happen but I can’t do it without help. I don’t want money from outside sources; I just want my Pell grant that I am entitled to as a United States citizen!

Please sign and share to get my story out there.

We, the undersigned, call on Monterey Peninsula College to return the Pell Grant to people who deserve it.
