Stop the Three Proposed Cell Towers

We, the undersigned, stand in opposition to the proposed construction/installation of:

1. one cell tower to be located near Hillcrest School on the property at 2391 20th Ave. S.E., Salmon Arm. B.C.

2. two cell towers to be located on CPR land adjacent to Canoe Forest Products and within 300 meters of the business centre of Canoe. The final application of Telus needs to be revoked.

*We insist that the Municipality of Salmon Arm immediately institute an Antenna Siting Consultation Policy recommended by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities in early 2013, and apply it to the above installations, and all future cell tower applications from the telecom industry.

*The siting policy must include, the placement of cell towers well up the hillsides (eg.crown land) a minimum of a kilometre away from communities, businesses, homes, schools, hospitals, parks et al.

*We demand a freeze on these three potential installations, & all future installations until an adequate siting policy is in place that minimizes harm & is based on recommendations of independent scientists i.e not paid for by industry that stands to profit. A Cell Tower Consultation Siting Policy takes into consideration citizens' concerns, potential health effects & environmental impacts. This entire process must be transparent, open, inclusive, & democratic.

*Safety Code 6, the federal legislation which should govern these frequencies, is currently under review by Health Canada. It does not even address biological damage to the body and is most inadequate, in this context, to protect the public.

Therefore, we the undersigned demand that the municipality exercise the Precautionary Principle: consider before you commit; study the vast body of research on EMR; and hold public educational forums on this serious issue.
