The proposed action skate park would require the demolition of the only multi-use green space in Orchard Park.  The other areas of the park are designated for formal use by team sports and are almost continuously reserved for organized functions.

The green space is currently flexibly and peacefully utilized for a plethora of diverse activities enjoyed by the neighborhood and entire community.  Those actives include but aren’t limited to: baseball, softball, football, soccer, wiffleball, kickball, rugby, cricket, croquet, bocce, running, track and field, golf putting, kite-flying, meditation/contemplation/prayer by a variety of faiths, picnicking, sunbathing, fly-casting, the Community Easter Egg Hunt, sledding, snow shoeing, cross country skiing, kayaking when the park is flooded, tag, hide and seek, unlimited children’s games, family events, tai-chi, international food festivals, butterfly catching, bird watching, drone flying, hobbyists flying RC helicopters and planes, dog walking and so much more- would be a tremendous loss for our neighborhood. This beautiful green space, which benefits an enormous cross section of the population and community, would be relegated to a single use that benefits an extremely limited and narrow demographic. Eliminating our beloved green space would mean that hundreds of daily users would be displaced.

The Greentree neighborhood currently sustains and enjoys a healthy balance between public good and private rights. The legitimate concerns of property owners and residents must be respected before any consideration is given to convert this beautiful park, peacefully utilized by the community, into a concrete paved arena that will benefit an extremely narrow demographic.

We believe that maintaining Orchard Park's green space is essential. Replacing green space with an action-skate park at the Orchard Park location is an inappropriate use of this space, and as such would have a highly negative impact on the neighborhood and surrounding areas.

We want to preserve our green space and it's healthy, positive effects it has on the neighborhood and community. An action-skate park would require the destruction of our green space that is peacefully enjoyed by hundreds of residents every day and would replace it with a concrete arena that would be utilized by a narrow demographic.

We, the undersigned, ask the State College Borough Council to preserve and protect Orchard Park's green space, and oppose the construction of an action-skate park at the Orchard Park location.
