Petition to JTC Corporation to rename "Media Circle" to "P. Ramlee Drive" in Mediapolis

P. Ramlee, a legendary entertainment icon of the 50s and 60s got started at the Shaw Studios at Jalan Ampas in Singapore in the 1940s. His work, recognized all over Asia, setting high standards for the entertainment industry.

His movies and songs are not only popular among Malays, but have a huge following among Chinese and Indian viewers. P. Ramlee also has a huge following in Malaysia, Indonesia and even as far away as the Middle East.

In Malaysia, his memory lives on and roads, buildings and memorials are named in his honor. While in Singapore, where rich donors have hospitals baring their names, the country where P. Ramlee started his career, no sign his memory remains. Even Jalan Ampas has faded and forgotten to be an ordinary address filled with condominiums and factory buildings.

As Mediapolis seeks to be Singapore’s first digital media hub of the country, renaming the street from a more generic "Media Circle" to "P. Ramlee Drive" will certainty be more memorable, generate more impact and much more meaningful to the hearts of many. It would also make much more sense as P. Ramlee, an entertainer himself, has a street baring his name in Mediapolis.
