On Saturday, October 21st, the Chance, a regional nightclub for upstart musical artists in the Poughkeepsie area, has slated the "Too Bad" tour, headlined by the notoriously anti-gay reggae artist Buju Banton.

Mr. Banton has built his fame on a message of hostility to gays and lesbians through such songs as "Boom Boom Bye" that support the shootings of gays and lesbians in the head. He has also been connected to a brutal bias-motivated incident in Jamaica, participating in a gang of a dozen members that savagely assualted a couple of gays in June 2004, resulting in their hospitalization.

To the citizens of the Greater Hudson Valley, tell the Chance that it's irresponsible of them to condone Mr. Banton's history of homophobia by giving him the spotlight, and that they should seriously reconsider endorsing him.

To all the Citizens of the Greater Hudson Valley,

Tell the Chance that you cannot support their decision to bring the notoriously anti-gay reggae artist, Buju Banton, to Poughkeepsie and let him perform on Saturday, October 21st. We, the undersigned, are petitioning the Chance to reconsider, and endorse an artist that calls for the systematic slaughter of gays and lesbian through his lyrics.

It's more than reprehensible, it's amoral, and the Chance should not open up its stage to homophobia.
