The laws regarding vehicle parking in Pitman need to be amended.

It is discriminatory, and therefore unconstitutional, to charge for parking in municipal lots for those without driveways.

The recently enacted laws (September 2008) require a paid permit for -residents only- in municipal lots. Some people even have to pay to park on their own property.(Pitman Grove)

It is unfair to charge for parking in these lots (without good reason) when on-street parking has been made illegal. These charges are in addition to local taxes and without guarantee of adequate parking space or vehicle safety.

The antiquated "no street parking overnight" rule was intended for safety, yet theft and vandalism are still rampant, even in paid municipal lots. It would be safer to park in front of one's own property.

THE LACK OF FREE PARKING FOR ALL IS WRONG.

These unnecessary permits should be free, or at least income-based and tax deductible. Space should be provided for everyone with a permit.

Allowances should also be made for non-residents and visitors, or anyone else left without options.

We, the undersigned, call upon the governing parties of Pitman to amend the rules regarding on-street and overnight parking, or retract the fee for parking permits.
