In my son’s school, there are only two 1st grade classes with 35 students each. At this capacity, it makes it very challenging for the teachers to teach and for the students to learn.
Teachers are unable to give the students the necessary attention they need. What is troubling about this is that at the 1st grade level, it is absolutely imperative that these students have a solid foundation for future academic success.
Furthermore, there is no time for snacks or to go outside for recess, which we all know kids at that age need as well. We believe that it is more than necessary to file this petition/complaint on behalf of our kids!
We are pleading that you give our kids the best opportunities possible for their future’s sake.
We, the undersigned, call on New York City Department of Education Chancellor Carmen Farina to open another 1st grade class, find the money that you need for the sake of our children’s education and for the effectiveness of the teachers!
