According to Bureau of Custom about fifty million pesos are uncollected tax from OFW balik bayan box monthly, because some of them are not from OFW but from business men. Bureau of custom will implement some new guidelines this coming October 2015 including one hundred pesos (100 pesos) increase of tax to every balikbayan box and open the balik bayan box for inspection.
Bureau of Custom insist that their action is for the protection of the government. (But for all OFW world wide it is not so.)
This action and new guidelines of Bureau of Custom is a direct disrespect to every OFW who experience a lot of sacrifice ( dugo at pawis ) just to send their balikbayan box to their love one.. this balikbayan box almost sacred to every OFW that we expect our love one will be the one to open it first not the BUREAU OF CUSTOM.
The issue of national security is not a big issue, why not use industrial detector to determine if there is some explosive inside the box, to use this issue or for national security is not acceptable to all OFW.
Our government call us THE NEW HEROES of the Philippines because we, the OFW are the one who put the economy of the Philippine intact and strong as we remit billion of dollar monthly.
OFW deserve to be respect including our BALIKBAYAN BOX and not to be open disrespectfully by any government agency or Bureau of Custom without our consent and presence!
We, the undersigned (Overseas Filipino Workers) call on the Bureau of Custom to stop opening our sacred BALIKBAYAN BOX for inspection without our consent and presence.
We do not believe that your new guidelines and action is the best way to stop smuggling or syndicate nor to prevent chaos.
National security is not the real issue, your agency knew the truth who is the real smuggler or syndicate surely not the OFW!
As OFW we already suffer a lot of sacrifices, toil, lost of our love one let not your agency add another one in our shoulder!
