Say NO to CoastConnect

CoastConnect is a State Government initiative to improve public transport through:
• New bus/transit lanes on main roads between Caloundra and Maroochydore
• Upgrade to major bus stations and stops
• Priority for buses over cars on main roads between Caloundra and Maroochydore

Bus lanes and transit lanes are proposed between Caloundra and Maroochydore, these are:

Nicklin Way- Buderim Street to Mooloolah River
• Four general traffic lanes
• Two bus/transit lanes
• Widen Ahern and Tokara Canal Bridges

Mooloolaba- Brisbane Road
• Two general Traffic and two transit lanes
• Widen Mayes Canal and Tuckers Creek bridges
• Re-instate some kerbside parking

Mooloolaba/Alexandra Headland- Walan Street to Pacific Terrace
• Reconfigure Venning Street, Mooloolaba Esplanade and Alexandra Parade to two general traffic and two transit lanes
• Option to realign a section of Alexandra Parade to the west (at Buderim Avenue).

Maroochydore- Alexandra Parade/Pacific Terrace to Aerodrome Road onto Horton Parade
• Widen roads to from general traffic lanes and two bus/transit lanes
• Option to realign a section of Alexandra Parade to the west (at Okinja Road).

The Queensland Government, as part of the South East Queensland Infrastructure Plan and Program 2008, has committed A$297 million to deliver CoastConnect: Caloundra to Maroochydore Quality Bus Corridor.

A$297 million and this is all they have come up with?! This is the best solution for a growing population?

There will be limited, if at all, parking along these roads. Retail outlets, restaurants, housing, resorts, hotels, general shopping outlets, hairdressers, and all other shopping outlets along these roads will all be affected. Where will their customers, who their business provides for, park? The locals and tourists will be unable to park along the beachfront anymore and will no longer be a simple “trip to the beach”, which Sunshine Coast is so famous for.

Shouldn’t the Government be looking solutions to re-direct traffic away from the beaches, and housing? Many people pay top dollar to have their lifestyle and beachfront just the way it is right now!
