In good faith the citizens of Rockford passed the 1% sales tax referendum. When the referendum was being discussed and the Riverwalk was in that proposal, the public outcry was so loud that it was removed.
Now we find out that for the past 3 years, this administration has set aside funds that were meant to be used for our ever crumbling roads and bridges but have been allocated for the Riverwalk.
The city has made cuts and layoffs on services many citizens see as essential and a Riverwalk is not necessary. The timing of this extravagant project seems wrong.
We, the undersigned, tax paying citizens of Rockford do not want any of our Motor Fuel Tax funds going to the proposed Riverwalk.
