No Child Should Go Hungry

As most of you know my son's lunch was ripped away from him and thrown in the trash over a negative account balance of $4.95. He tried to pay $2.00 towards that day's lunch, and bring in the remainder including the balance the following day. He was told no.

I am tired of excuses and lies. I want guidlines set in place for all of Dowagiac schools so this does not happen to another student.

The first and most important thing is, no child should be refused a meal reguardless of the situation. If a circumstance arrises and a child does not have money or has a negative account, they need to be offered a cold sandwhich at the very least. NO CHILD SHOULD BE DENIED FOOD! Set aside funds for a few loaves of bread needed throughout the year.

Second, No child should be bullied by ANY staff member over their lunch account. Taking food out of their hands and throwing it away should not be tolerated. Posting their names and account balances on the wall for all to see is quite embarassing, and needs to come to a stop!

Thirdly if your going to send letters to parents, make sure they actually get sent.
