Maryland's governor is deploying the National Guard in Baltimore where protesters destroyed police cars and injured 15 officers — one severely — during violent, fiery clashes between cops and crowds following the funeral of a black man fatally injured in police custody.

Gov. Larry Hogan declared a state of emergency on Monday evening "to address the growing violence and unrest in Baltimore," and Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake is instuting a 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew across the city.

"Too many people have spent generations building up this city for it to be destroyed by thugs, who in a senseless way, are trying to tear down what so many have fought for, tearing down businesses, tearing down and destroying property — things that we know will impact our community for years, Rawlings-Blake said Monday evening at a news conference.

People armed with rocks, bricks and boards stormed the streets on Monday shortly after the service for Freddie Gray, wrecking patrol cars, looting stores and setting a CVS pharmacy on fire. Rioters cut a fire hose as the store burned.

The crowds are filled with “lawless” people, a police official said as surrounding law enforcement agencies sent in reinforcements.

With the violence and uncetainty, Baltimore does not appear to be a safe place.

As a parent I feel uncomfortable with my child(ren) attending a field trip to the city of Baltimore.

I am asking that a new field trip location to be assigned for the 8th grade students.

The No Baltimore field trip for NMS 8th graders petition to Penn Delco School District was written by Dawn Kane and is in the category Students' Rights at GoPetition.
