The Local Development Framework for Newcastle upon Tyne states that the council will consider “the introduction of road user charging to manage congestion and promote sustainable transport modes”. Every Liberal Democrat Councillor voted against a Labour Party amendment removing this clause.

Now that the council has voted to give itself the power to introduce local road user charging , it may only be a matter of time before it is introduced. In many cases, congestion may be increased by decisions made within the council.

We must demonstrate to Newcastle City Council that we want to see improvements to public transport in the city NOT more local stealth taxes.

For more information, see our blog site http://stop-newcastle-road-charge.blogspot.com/ or our Facebook site http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=8605207735&ref=nf

We, the undersigned, petition Newcastle City Council to halt any plans they are developing to introduce a local road user charging scheme and to look at other options for tackling road congestion, including making improvements to public transport links.
