Over the few decades ways in which music is distributed have changed drastically. One of the largest of these changes came in the form of music television stations, such as MTV and VH1.

Today MTV serves one of the largest television markets in the world, however though the station claims to be primarily influenced by the general public, one can’t help but wonder how this could happen while being owned by Viacom.

Viacom or Video & Audio Communications, Is one of the largest media conglomerates today. They own some of the largest film companies such as Paramount and DreamWorks but most notably they own MTV, MTV 2, VH1 and BET. Those three channels dominate the music television industry, and are owned by the same conglomerate.

This eliminates all competition in the music television industry, as well as limiting the exposure to knew and unsigned music. In addition to the lack of diversity in there music, the actual music television shows have been replaced by repetitious reality shows. This needs to end.

Please sign this petition to take action against Viacom and MTV for creating an atmosphere in which music can no longer be distinguished for quality or musical talent, but only by how much money is given to the conglomerate in charge, as well as letting reality TV shows take the place of what these stations were first created for.

After signing this petition I ask you to boycott all Music Television until Viacom decides to give freedom back to the music industry and create a new station for shit reality TV shows.
