Transplant criteria at local hospitals and insurance companies create a no-win situation for seriously ill patients who are prescribed legal medical marijuana.
In the now sixteen states that allow medicinal use of cannabis, a patient prescribed medicinal marijuana in need of a life-saving organ transplant will be disqualified for "abuse of illicit substances," and will then be forced to reapply no sooner than 6 months from their last date of cannabis use.
I, a resident in the United States of America, believe it to be my human right to have access to safe and effective medication while still being eligible for a much needed procedure.
Therefore, I move to create a uniform criteria hospitals, doctors, and organizations such as UNOS must follow that is as inclusive as possible and does not discriminate against patients using physician prescribed medicinal marijuana.
