As of 2012 the number of individuals waiting for affordable housing was significantly high at almost 158,500 with 72,700 of those individuals/families living in Toronto. (Monsebraaten, L).

New units need to be built yearly in order to accommodate such high demands for low income housing. I know housing issues will not be solved with just a few extra units annually but it needs to start somewhere.

Many of the individuals on low income wait lists end up living with family or worse homeless. This leaves individuals feeling no self-worth which in turn makes it harder for them to get back on their feet.

I believe there should be more funding set aside to build new units to help house these individuals so they have 1 less issue to worry about when they are trying to become successful individuals within their communities. When you are on the low income spectrum it makes it harder to become a successful individual. You are constantly having to worry about accommodations, money or lack of, your job or finding employment, food bank visits, travelling expenses, appointments with your worker (eg. Ontario Works) and so many other things that many individuals take for granted daily.

Some of the individuals on the waiting list have been on that list for 5+ years with no end in sight. There is a high priority list but even that list has over a year-long wait and only goes to special cases (violence cases).

Please sign and help me put an end to 5+yr wait times.
