August 2005 Michael McNamara started Marshalltown High School. Mike has been an over achieving, go getter with an attitude and maturity that would resemble an adult instead of a normal high school teenager. Mike was an outstanding team member to the Men's Cross Country and Track team and an active member in National Honors Society along with Student Senate. He was going to walk across the graduation stage May 30th, 2009 along side the rest of his classmates with an astounding 3.8 GPA and a full ride to Iowa that upcoming Fall. He is loved by all MHS staff and students. On April 5th, 2009 mike fell into an unresponsive state because of an unknown illness. Today, Mike is at "On With Life" a Brain Injury Rehabilitation home in Ankeny; still in the unresponsive state but improving everyday with Love from his Family and Friends and attending physical therapy daily.

On May 18th, 2009 Deb MacNamara spoke with Mrs. Lowery, the Principal at Marshalltown High School, and was told by her that in order for Michael to be recognized at the Graduation Ceremony he would have to attend, but his attendance to the Ceremony is unlikely at this moment. Deb asked if a family member could accept his Diploma in place of Mike, Mrs. Lowery said that's not the way thing are done at Commencement.

We, the undersigned, ask Mrs. Lowery and the Marshalltown School Board to allow Michael McNamara to be recognized and a close Family member to accept his High School Diploma under the circumstance that he won't be able to attend the Graduation Ceremony on May 30th, 2009.
