In the United States, information on where beef originated has been unavailable to the consumers. If the beef is imported to the U.S. and then repackaged, it is then passed on as U.S. beef. This is a serious issue for the world and more specifically the Tropics.

Some of the concerns that Americans have about this issue are that the beef may differ in quality, the countries licensed to export and raise the beef do not always have the same laws and regulations that the U.S. has in raising the cattle. In addition, cattle in the tropics are causing deforestation and a number of serious problems to the environment that could have catastrophic and disastrous impacts on the world.

If Americans were aware of the serious threats that these cattle pose they might not feel comfortable purchasing imported beef.

We, the undersigned, call on the U.S. Department of Agriculture to force all facilities selling beef, to list the country-of-origin so that the consumer’s can easily and accurately have this information when the meat is purchased.

This includes, but is not limited to restaurants, meat markets, and grocery stores.
