Although UCR is not against the LGBT community our social movement would like to see UCR openly state their acceptance of LGBT members and organizations. UCR has an LGBT club on campus along with a LGBT service center which we are happy about; but what we would like to have is high ranking officials on campus to not be afraid of speaking on the topic and more importantly speaking with words of support.
As students, our identities intersect race, class, gender and sexuality; and at UCR, we pride ourselves as one of the most diverse campuses in the nation. Although our campus is generally tolerant of the LGBT community, we believe that we must move forward and REACH OUT to the LGBT community in order to truly embrace this diversity. Today we ask you to take the pledge to take a more active role in reaching out to your fellow LGBT students, faculty, and staff through support, education and advocacy!
We agree that UCR should be a campus that is open and supportive of LGBT members.
We would like to see high ranking officials around campus to include LGBT in speeches, statements, etc. in positive terms to keep the discrimination on campus on the decrease.
