Organizations in the UK (as reported by the BBC, http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-36279845) are forcing Black women to wear weaves and chemically relaxed hair to work, deeming their natural hair unprofessional.

It is unbelievable that in 2016, a wide-scale of employers still force their Black female employees to wear weave and relaxed hair knowing/unknowing that this could lead to serious health implications, such as scalp bleeding, cancer, migraines, baldness and mental torture-from suppressing their civil liberties. Of all races, Black women are the only ones forced to conform to such draconian and unfair practices.

Simply put, a human being should not be forced to do anything to their bodies that could be severely harmful to their health, especially to find a job or make a living. While UK Dress Code Laws does specifically address this issue, this form of discrimination and harassment has no place in modern society in this day and age.

We, the undersigned, call on the UK Parliament to implement policies/laws to stop discrimination/harassment against black women who wear their natural hair to work.
