After leaving the courthouse today, I realize SC stands for the deadbeat parents. If you decide you don't want to pay your child support it's ok, no problem. What in the heck are single Parents suppose to do if they don't get support? They depend on this to pay rent, utilities, and other necessities. It's no wonder there are so many asking for assistance because SC doesn't hold the non custodial parent accountable. It's sickening! Thank God I am blessed with a husband who cares and takes on the Daddy responsibility.

I don't have to be that single Mom anymore. If SC would hold these sorry excuses accountable then you would see a lot less people needing assistance, not all but a lot. Most of the dead beats come in there with smiles on their faces and know they are getting out of supporting their kids because they know they will not go to jail. My Daughter's Father was told today by the clerk that even if he made partial payments that they would not arrest him. Why in the world would they tell someone this with a habitual history of failure to pay?

I was appalled by this, so when I ask why they would allow that since he has never gone more than a month with steady accurate payments she said that I might as well let the past go because it is irrelevant. That wasn't her exact sentence but close. I felt like the bad guy today from both the Clerk of Courts office and my Daughters Father for standing up and questioning why I can't get child support on time. Our arrears account has been up to $20,000 give or take a little. I received a lump sum back in May from a settlement and the only reason I received it was due to a lien being placed on a lawsuit he had going. They didn't even take the whole amount due, to satisfy the lien. They left some and gave him part of his settlement before the balance was taken care of. Now I am out of luck.

The clerk said he could make payments of $5 a month on the arrears account along with his "current" weekly payments (if he decides to pay it). If you can't put them in jail, then at least make them do community service or work doing odd jobs for the county and state to help pay.

We the custodial parents in South Carolina need to stand up and hold the Dead Beat parents accountable for their children. Please sign this petition and share your struggles with trying to receive your child support payments.

Our Government needs to get with the program. Our state is far behind other states on how they collect child support payments. It's time South Carolina takes a step forward and makes this a priority!
