Petition Background (Preamble):
Life should mean life when given as a prison sentence. Every day we read about murderers and rapists being given a life sentence and before we know it they are free. We need a more substantial deterrent in the UK.
People who commit such dreadful crimes, know in the worst case they will be free in 10 years. We want change. A life sentence must mean just that, whole of life.

Petition:
We the undersigned urge the UK government to review current law and sentences being handed to people found guilty of murder and other very serious crimes when a life sentence is imposed.
