The City of Hickory, NC
Region:
United States of America

Honoring the wants of the few before the rights of the many is anything but honorable. While in many places this scenario is often reality, pockets of equality exist. One prominent opportunity to create such pockets can be found in our public parks and recreational areas.

These locations, which are funded through the tax-dollars of the citizens that use them, allow children and adults to exercise, play, socialize, and enjoy the outdoors.

These spaces are vital to the health and happiness of a community, and they should be equally accessible to everyone that contributes to their existence.

It is unfortunate and unjust that access to much of a public property in Hickory, NC has been restricted to a small group of people.

The lower-half of Jaycee Park (Near Arby's on 321) has been reserved for select recreational events; consequently, the field, bathhouse, and the adjacent enclosure have been locked for several weeks. This location has served the surrounding neighborhood and residents of Hickory for years. Now it sits locked and unused 6 days or more per week.

It is imperative that access be returned to the people. Life may not be a level playing field, but with your help, the field down the street can be.
