In previous years students have been allowed to drive to their vocational program in Kendallville, Indiana. For some students the drive to Kendallville is much closer than the drive to Prairie Heights High School to get on the vocational bus to then drive them to Kendallville.

When students signed up to be in the vocational program they were allowed to drive themselves to Kendallville. This may have been a factor in whether they joined a program or not, considering where they lived. Like written above, some students live in Noble County or live right on the line, making it easier for them to drive to Kendallville rather than to LaGrange early in the morning.

In recent weeks, the administrators revoked this privilege and have forced students to ride the buses or serve 3- hour detentions. By doing this they have outraged the students and have created more expenses for the school board. Other schools encourage carpooling to save money and be eco-friendly.

Vocational educators have stated that the students have lacked work ethic and seem tired. By being able to drive students will save gas money, not have to wake up 45 minutes earlier to catch the bus, and save the school money for transportation costs.

We, the undersigned, call on the Prairie Heights School Corporation to allow all vocational students to drive at will to and from Kendallville, Indiana.
