Leggings for LAB

On November 18th 2014 the female students of The LAB school of Washington were notified that they where no longer permitted to wear leggings or yoga pants. There was an immediate opposing outcome from the majority of the high school girls who favored wearing them. The Lab School girls are already limited with what they can wear regarding the dress code. With one more addition to the list it limits their wardrobe extensively, this is most evident in the winter where they are restricted to mostly jeans and sweatpants.

While the females of the LAB School are not only loosing their right to wear Leggings/Yoga pants, they are also prohibited to wear tank tops that are less than 3 inches wide, shirts that have the slightest purposeful rips or tear or ride up if they put their arms above their head, and shorts that are above their fingers. They understand and agree that these rules are acceptable for school and will follow them, but leggings/yoga pants do not break any of the rules that are set in place.

While the girls have all these rules for what to wear, the boys of the high school only have two main rules. Firstly, muscle shirts, which doesn't apply to the majority of them because so few wear it, and sagging their pants, which by what we see and hear from other students it is not very enforced.

LAB is also a school which encourages expressing ourselves and being creative who we are, and taking appropriately covering leggings/yoga pants away restricts us from expressing ourselves. Considering leggings/yoga pants have been warn for years, it bewilders female supporters of LAB to discover now that leggings would be banned now since they do not seem to effect the general learning and academic experiences.
