#Local Government
Target:
Honorable Peter Bjornson, Minister of Entrepreneurship, Training and Trade
Region:
Canada

The Manitoba government has recently made an announcement that it will cut back services at the Education and Training Beausejour location, moving them to Selkirk, 43km away.

The RM of Brokenhead has experienced an increase of population of 17.6% between 2006 and 2011, and of that population many have used the services of the Education and Training branch located in Beausejour.

As this office covers a large catchment area, residents of surrounding communities (Springfield, Reynolds, Lac Du Bonnet) are also affected by changes made to this government department. The service will be cut back to one worker attending once bi-weekly for client care. Currently the Education and Training employees handle upwards of 80 clients each.

In order to continue the communities developmental growth, education services provided by this department is crucial.

As a student at Beausejour Adult education Center, I am writing this letter of petition in support of the Education and Training Center remaining available to the clients and public of the R.M. of Brokenhead and surrounding communities.

This facility is a valuable asset and we along with local communities depend on it. Many of us have had to return to school for many reasons. Some of us need to complete our education to become employed, some to become further employed, or to take the courses required for college, trades, and so forth. The Education and Training Beausejour Center – Entrepreneurship, Training and Trade facility offers us workers who see and understand how difficult it is to progress in a small community where resources and funding are limited.

We live in a community where it is crucial now more than ever to obtain education and training. Education is necessary for every generation, but if the facility is unavailable, the education will be lost. Many of us cannot afford to commute to another town or city to access this resource.

We are seeking that our facility and current workers remain in our community. The attached signatures are of those who support that Employment Manitoba remains available in Beausejour, Manitoba.
