My mother was arrested a year ago for stabbing her boyfriend to death. However, it was self defense because he used to abuse her. They court said they don't do self defense in New York so they charged her with manslaughter and set her bail at 5 million. It has been a year and she still has not been sentenced. There are legal documents showing police reports when they used to fight and he did have a record. However, I have no access to anything because I'm in foster care and still a minor.
I just want justice for my mother because it was self defense and I think she should do little or no more time at all. Me and my other three siblings were put in foster care before the incident because of domestic violence. She used to show up to visits with black eyes and he used to beat her to the point where she couldn't move but she was just too blinded thinking she was in love. She is also about to lose her rights to me because it's about to be two years.
We call on the government and the supreme Court to give justice to Carmen Rodriguez.
She was charged with manslaughter but it should be self defense. Her bail has been set at 5 million and is still awaiting trial for her sentence. She has been on rikers for a year and since I'm in foster care I only get to see her once or twice a month.
Please help give justice for my mom!
