Create an ISA Global Health Section

We would warmly welcome your support for establishing a new Global Health section at the ISA.

Reflecting the pressing health challenges that continue to exist around the world, the study of global health has now become a salient part of International Studies and International Relations.

This is evidenced both by the formation of a sizeable (interdisciplinary) community of scholars researching the international politics of health, and the fact that a number of leading International Relations and Political Science departments have established dedicated research centers on global health.

Over the past decade, ISA has already hosted dozens of conference panels on global health and has become the de facto ‘institutional home’ for this global community of scholars.

We hope that formal ISA section status would:

1) further strengthen and enhance the profile of global health scholarship within the discipline;

2) make IR the first discipline to provide this multidisciplinary field a formal basis to develop and grow in the years ahead; and also

3) enable the global health movement to benefit from the unique perspectives that international relations and international studies can bring to bear on it. However, under new ISA guidelines we need to receive 100 signatures from current ISA members pledging their support.
