Jan and Dean were a Rock and Roll duo, popular from the late 1950's through the mid 1960's.
Jan Berry who was the founder of the first known musical duo known as Jan & Arnie and later as Jan & Dean. Jan Berry, with a very high IQ, a medical student, was a musical genius, who was able create sounds, and act and an image that lives on to this day.
Jan Berry could read and write music and had the substantial knowledge; and he had the ability to conceive of complex arrangements, bringing the right people together (musically and technically) to see his ideas to completion. He was also the first guy to hand pick and put together, known as the Wrecking Crew.
Even, Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys, benefited from Jan Berry's technical expertise in the studio. Nine of Jan Berry and Brian Wilson's musical collaborations were issued as hit singles or strong album cuts for Jan & Dean.
Among the most successful first surf song and #1 National Hit: "Surf City" in 1963, which was co-written with Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys, and topped both the Billboard and Cash Box - #1.
Jan Berry is known for his bouncing signature: "bomp-bomp" vocal.
