Tobacco is second leading cause of mortality in the world. Health authorities have indicated that tobacco being the strong predictor of various forms of cancers in Pakistan and in the last few decades there has been a surge in the incidence of lung and oral cancers mainly due to extensive use of different variety of tobacco products.
Nearly 100,000 people die annually and many suffer chronic ailments leading to tremendous increase in the health care cost. Thus depriving the country from healthy workforce and as well increasing the burden of disease on the overburdened health sector and huge economic damage to families due to loss of productivity and increased health-care costs.
I appreciate the efforts of Government for taking bold step of increasing the Size of Pictorial Health Warning and stepping forward for protecting me, my family and friends from the tobacco industry.
Respected Prime Minister! In Pakistan after every 5 minute one person dies of smoking. Health authorities have indicated that tobacco being the strong predictor of various forms of cancers in Pakistan and in the last few decades there has been a surge in the incidence of lung and oral cancers mainly due to extensive use of different variety of tobacco products and one-month cost of the treatment of a cancer patient, for instance, is Rs100, 000 and there are hundreds and thousands of cancer patients in the country.
Respected Sir, here I am referencing a news item according to which tobacco industry write a letter to FBR chairman to force the Ministry of NHSRC to withdraw their decision of raising pictorial health warning to 85%. The argument that a tobacco industry built to reverse this landmark decision were factious and totally against the health of Pakistanis.
Respected Prime Minister! In the backdrop of this, it’s a time to decide! What is Important Health of Pakistanis People or Deaths due to tobacco industry.
I humbly request you to inform the FBR to instantly reject the letter of Tobacco Industry and also extend your support to Ministry of NHSRC for prompt Implementation of notification of raising pictorial health warning on cigarette pack to 85%.
