Help keep Shay's Pub open and stamp out Discrimination by The City of Salisbury

This is a petition involving discrimination by The City of Salisbury, Wicomico County, Md. We, the undersigned call on the NAACP to help stop the City of Salisbury from closing Shay's Pub.

The City of Salisbury is misusing their authority again by placing undue hardship on a nightclub because they offer Hip-Hop music and cater to a predominately African-American clientele.

We ignored their advice to "consider a change of music" and consequently our liquor license was suspended for thirty days. They claimed the suspension was for six incidents (three of which were dismissed) over a seven month period. These offenses were minor in comparison to the six incidents that occurred in a seven month period at Brew River (which included multiple fights, at least fifteen arrests, MDOP, and an abduction).

Two civil rights cases were filed in the United States District Court by against the City of Salisbury involving defunct nightclubs in the City of Salisbury, Vissage and Andromeda, (both filed civil suits in the United States district court against the City of Salisbury for violation of their civil rights and discrimination).

Both claimed they were harassed by a heavy oppressive police presence and unreasonably harsh sanctions by the the Wicomico County Liquor Board which included suspending their liquor licenses which consequently forced them out of business because they offered Hip-Hop music and catered to a predominately African American clientele.
