Browsing through facebook I came across a post shared by Mr. Haroon Rasaheed and Ashraf Chaudhry about a rant of a student who failed to get admission in GC University Lahore. Her claim is that she was refused entry on the basis that she wears a veil.

Without verifying the whole story, these two above named public figures shared the post of student on their wall with foul language. As a result lots of people thought this news is authentic as it came from supposedly authentic source and made this news a religious matter. These people want to do a physical protest and has even got a facebook page inviting people to do it. If you read the comments people are threatening and using abusive language against the teacher and the institute.

Without getting into which side is right in the story, my point is that a simple search would have revealed that the girl is lying.

1: No admission list is declared by university yet, hence claiming that she didn’t get admission is the main lie.

2: Claiming that she didn’t get admission into university because she wears a veil when students in university and business school wear veils freely and student’s comments on the posts again proves that Mehreen’s clain is false.

3: If you read her post and see her video, it clearly shown that even her English skills are not upto the mark of getting admission into a prestigious institute like GCU and thus without going too much in detail one can tell that it’s a rant of a rejected(near rejected) student and a cry for attention.

4: If she believed that there was injustice done against her, she should have followed the organization’s rules and regulations and complaint to the registrar or Dean or Vice Chancellor or even Chancellor. Going to social media completely seems like propaganda to deface an institute more than anything.

5: These so called public figures (Mr Haroon and Mr Ashraf) should have verified it on Monday when the university opens and shouldn’t have shared a fake news just to be part of a cheap publicity stunt.

GCU is there for last over 160 years and the said teacher is teaching there for the last over 10 years, there has never been a complaint about such incident. The business school is one of the top in the country. How can one believe on a claim of a girl without verifying it and start blaming a teacher when even our religion tells us to respect the teacher.

This is a shameful and an irresponsible act by both these gentlemen. I propose that they should apologize on social media or give proof on the basis of which they shared it.

I also request the print and digital media to ban these two people as they are not credible source of information and if they cannot verify this little news and transmit it forward, how can we trust them to talk about and give suggestions on important issues of the country.
