What if your child came home crying every day only to discover the teacher was calling them a name? It happened to someone we know,and now they are taking away our right to "look in" without the teacher knowing.
Bowling Green Primary School has decided not to allow parents into the school at any time without calling ahead for a special pass. We can no longer enter the school to walk our children to their classroom without a pass, we cannot attend breakfast or lunch without a pass, and we cannot "check in" on what's going on in the classroom without setting up an appointment with the teacher. Otherwise you must leave your child in front of the office; they will be lead to their room, and we must leave immediately.
This allows room for things that may go on in the classroom to be kept private. One parent was nearly arrested over the issue when she asked to speak to the principal about it. We feel that this is removing the parents from being involved with the school and taking away our right to know what is going on with our children's education.
We, the parents of students at Bowling Green Primary School, want the right to enter the school through the office to check in on our children without the teacher knowing we are coming in.
By restricting us from entering at anytime without the teacher's advance knowledge, it allows anything in the classroom to be changed or hidden before we get there.
It is understandable to have security in the school, but if a parent presents proper identification they should be allowed to enter the school at any time, provided they report to the office.
