Yet again one of the most prominent forms of music in the Caribbean has not Featured in the so called MOBO (Music Of Black Origin) Awards. Soca known and loved around the world by millions of people regardless of colour has failed to get itself on the coveted list.
Why is it that this music thats root clearly stem back to Africa is not seen as important enough to be featured. Clearly it is not because it does not fill the criteria at hand! Why are the tastes of millions of fans being sidelined and ignored. Is it because we Caribbeans and fans of the Caribbean in true style are too laid back to do anything about it.
Now is the time to make a stand, finally! Not just with words but with actions. The MOBO executive are clearly more interested in raising their profile, and filling their pockets than they are of pushing all Black music to its rightful place.
We will be boycotting anything to do with the MOBO's till Soca is added to the list of awards.
We the undersigned call on the executive of the MOBO's to include a category to recognise Soca music in next year's awards.
