Gender Studies has proven to be an exciting new discourse at Southern Cross University this semester. High levels of initial enrolments internally and externally show consistent enthusiasm and student engagement and therefore make it a worthwhile topic for further engagement.
Many students have voiced the desire to have Gender Units available as a Major area of study. This petition is designed to assist students in having a voice in their educational choices and outcomes, by adding their names to those who would like to see this area of study broadened at Southern Cross University to include it as a Major.
The introduction of the Gender, Sexuality and Culture (SOC10400-2009-2) unit within Cultural Studies this semester has opened the way for further discourse on this exciting and engaging subject.
The extraordinary number of enrolments (both internal and external) in this first time run unit are a testament to student interest in this timely subject. The unit is an introduction that we hope will be expanded on.
We the undersigned, therefore request that the Head of School, Arts and Social Sciences, Professor Jim McKay, seriously consider our petition to be have enough units available in Gender Studies to create a Major in this area.
