This petition is for pupils in attendance at Holyrood High to be allowed to travel on the School Bus to and from School. As it is now the kids have to get two buses to school and two back. A single decker 42 is used on the route home by Lothian buses and kids are being turned away as the bus is full. This is not acceptable.
The other option is to walk to and from school on a foot path that it out of view from the public, remote and which many feel is unsafe for the kids to be using (over the Dalkeith Road Recycling Centre path and beyond) or another path deemed unsafe and secluded adjacent to Craigmillar Castle Road.
The School Bus was available to all pupils until the city of Edinburgh council changed the criteria from living 2 miles away from the school to 3 even though we are still in the catchment area and come from the feeder Primary School.
I would add that the Holyrood School Bus stops and collects some pupils from the Gilmerton Road stop but not all.
The rest must travel using LRT buses instead. Even though they are all at the same stop going to the same place.
We would ask that all Holyrood pupils be allowed to travel on the school bus so that they reach school and home again in time and safely.
We ask that Edinburgh City Council change the criteria for travel on the Holyrood School Bus and allow all pupils traveling to and from school who live in the Inch access to this service. The routes set out for pupils to walk are not acceptable or safe.
The Bus route to school and back via public transport is very expensive and is inadequate to the point where kids are being left at the bus stop. All parents want their kids to get to school safely and on time everyday.
This can only be met by allowing all pupils to be picked up from the Gilmerton Road stop not just a few. In the winter months travel to and from school as it is now will be treacherous, dangerous and unnecessary. Please sign to push this change.
