Argyll & Bute Council implemented a Flag Flying Policy which means the Saltire the flag of Scotland only be flown once a year in Argyll & Bute this date being the 30th of November, St. Andrews Day. "The Policy is predicated on the principle of maintaining the dignity of national flags, whether the Union flag or the Saltire, will not normally be flown on days other than specified days. Continuous use diminishes the significance of flag flying on appointed days. The Policy seeks to avoid reducing the significance of National flags through use that might be considered to be associated with tourism/marketing and is explicitly designed to avoid the use of these flags being the subject of political controversy”.

“The Scottish Government has ruled that the Saltire should be, where possible, fly on all its buildings every day from 8am until sunset. An exception is made for United Kingdom National days”.

We the undersigned wish to have the flag pole at Castle Hill, re-instated with the flag of Scotland every day with the exception of commemorate days in accordance with the Scottish Government.

We the undersigned wish Mr. Douglas Hendry, Director of Customer Services and Councillor Len Scoullar, Provost, Argyll & Bute Council, to review their Flag flying Policy at the Castle Hill, Dunoon.

The undersigned wish the flag to be flown at all times with the exception of Commemorate days in accordance with the Scottish Government Flag flying Policy.
